Our Church has started a new curriculum for the 2006-2007
Sunday School year. It is called "LIVE B.I.G." which stands for "Believing in
God." It allows children to hear, see and live their belief in God. The program
enables children to know the love of God through Jesus. They take what they
learn from Sunday School into their everyday lives.
This program is different in that it combines music, art, theater, dance,
sight, sounds, discussion, and imagination in a unique way to benefit all types
of learning styles. All children are in one big classroom together. LIVE B.I.G.
is made for different age groups to work together to help each other and learn
from each other. This is also beneficial for those children who may be unsure
of Sunday School as they can attend with a sibling or friend who is not the
same age.
Each month has a theme. For example, September's theme is "God created the
world." Each week's lesson builds on that theme with different activities to
reinforce it. The children have videos, songs, art projects, games, and bible
study that all reflect what they are learning for the month.
Children ages 3-13 are invited to come see LIVE B.I.G. Sunday School begins at
9:45 in the education building behind the church. Interested parents and
families may visit the program's website, www.ilivebig.com
to learn more about this fun and exciting Sunday School.

Several opportunities abound for adults to share their faith and
talents.
From September - May, there are 2 adult classes on Sunday
mornings. The women and men begin around 9:30 in the Wm. P. Jenks room by
sharing in conversation with some enjoying a cup of coffee or tea. At 9:45 a.m.
they join in prayer and song. At 10 a.m. they separate with the women going to
the C.E. Wilson room for their class. During the summer months, June - August,
the two groups meet at 9 a.m. in the Wm. P. Jenks room and conduct their class
together. Check out the Newsletters for lesson titles, scripture passages and
teacher information.
Many of the adults teach, or assist, with the children and youth
Sunday School classes and Youth Fellowship. The adults are encouraged to
accompany the youth on their mission trips. All of those who have participated
in these various projects have found them challenging, enjoyable and very
rewarding experiences.
During Advent and Lent, Rev. Parlette leads special Bible
studies which are open to members of the church, as well as, individuals from
the surrounding communities. Previous studies have dealt with Handel’s Messiah,
the Book of Job and Unraveling The DaVinci Code. Watch this web-site and local
newspapers for information on the 2006 Advent study.
Individuals continue to share their faith and talents outside
the church. Some visit people in nursing homes or those who find it difficult,
or extremely hard, to leave their homes. Audio tapes of Sunday morning worship
services are taken to some shut-ins. Also, the Sunday worship service is
rebroadcast (there is a delay of 1 week) on radio station WWJL 95 FM The Voice
on Sunday evenings at 7 p.m. .
A group of ladies, young and not so young, make quilts to be
given to those who are shut-ins or those who are experiencing health problems.
This project has involved people from other faiths as well. The project is
expanding to provide quilts for babies with health problems. Check out the
article in the June Newsletter honoring Helen McKinley for her work on this
project.
Currently we have two bowling teams competing in the Monday
night church league at the local bowling alley. They have just completed
another successful season with the #1 team finishing in first place for the
sixth year in a row. Many people are involved with some bowling every week
while others bowl as substitutes whenever needed. Everyone seems to have a good
time while displaying good sportsmanship and Christian fellowship. Check out
the article in the June Newsletter on this subject.
Everyone is welcome to attend, and/or participate, in any, or
all, of the activities at The Presbyterian Church of Brookville.
